Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) — Chile will offer credit lines of up $8 million for producers of salmon affected by an outbreak of infectious anemia in the country’s south, President Michelle Bachelet said today.
Chile will grant credit lines of up to $8 million for sanitary and environmental investment projects, for a total impact of $400 million, the president said today at a business conference in Santiago.
“We will be very watchful to see what happens and ready to help out with all types of measures,” Bachelet said.
The president will also propose new sanitary regulations to control the virus that causes anemia in fish. Chile is working with Norway and Canada to research and develop better production methods to prevent outbreaks of this type in the future.
The government will offer the credits through the country’s economic development agency, known as CORFO, the president said.
