Southern Affairs publishes news, historical essays, and book reviews about Latin America and the world. The site was launched in 2005 as a digital work site by Nathan Gill, a journalist and Ph.D student in Latin American history at UNC Chapel Hill. Gill worked for a decade in South America as a reporter, covering governments, economies, and markets for Bloomberg News. He is also an associate researcher at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and a columnist at Mediato. His current research explores the intersection of environmental change and economic transition in the Ecuadorian Andes.

All submissions welcome.
