Southern Affairs is a Latin American history blog, offering news and analysis of current events, historical essays, and book reviews about the region since 2005. The site is published by N. H. Gill, a journalist and historian from North Carolina. It serves as a working draft for research projects and other lines of flight.

Gill is a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Ecuador and a PhD candidate in Latin American history at UNC Chapel Hill. He also serves as an Associate Research Professor at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and previously worked as a reporter for Bloomberg News in Latin America, covering governments, economies, and markets across the region. His work has been published by Bloomberg News, the BBC, United Press International, National Public Radio, and distributed by major news agencies in the English and Spanish-language press.
