Southern Affairs is a Latin American history blog, offering news and analysis of current events, historical essays, and book reviews about the region since 2005. The site is published by Nathan Gill, a journalist and historian from North Carolina. It serves as a digital workspace for research projects, drafts, and other lines of flight.

Gill served as bureau chief for Bloomberg News in Ecuador from 2010-2016, covering governments, economies, and markets across Latin America. He worked in Santiago, Chile for five years before that. His work has been published by Bloomberg News, Businessweek, the BBC, National Public Radio, United Press International, and syndicated by major news agencies in English and Spanish.

He is currently a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Ecuador working on his doctoral dissertation on the environmental history of forced labor in the Ecuadorian Andes. He is a visiting associate professor at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
